FAQ

How old does my baby have to be to attend a baby massage course?

You can massage your baby from birth, but I would wait until there are a few weeks old before brining them to baby massage classes. It is preferable if your baby is not yet an active crawler, but they can come as long as they are under 12months.

What if my baby is asleep at the time of the class?

Not a problem. Whilst we do not massage a sleeping baby, Mum's and Dad's still have the chance to practice their strokes on one of the several baby dolls that will be provided.

You then still have the benefit of mixing with other members of the group and learning the strokes for that week so you can take them home and practice them when your little one is awake.

What if my baby cries when I massage him?

No problem. Although we do not massage a crying baby we do not mind a crying baby. All babies are given the freedom to express themselves and communicate to their parents and caregivers. The classes will also facilitate a better understanding for parents in how to read their baby's cues.

What if my baby wants to feed?

If your baby is very young, he or she may want to feed frequently. If, during a session, your baby is communicating to you that they are hungry then you are welcome to feed your baby. You can still be a part of the class and watch the techniques being taught for that session. Or sit in a quite corner and then come back and join us. If your baby then falls into a nice slumber, you are more than welcome to continue on one of the baby dolls provided.

It is suggested that baby's not be massaged for at least 45 minutes after a breastfeed and 1 hour after a formula feed.

What do we bring for the class?

Only a pillow and towel will be needed.

Oils, mats and handouts will be supplied. We only use cold-pressed edible oils in our classes.

My baby was born premature. Can I still massage her?

Absolutely. Research has shown that preterm infants thrive on touch and gain more weight. It also enhances the bonding between parents and baby especially if there was separation at birth.

Please let your instructor know if your baby was premature or had any surgical procedures performed. That way we can modify your course so it meets your baby's needs.

My baby suffers from wind/colic. Can baby massage help him?

Yes it can. During the sessions we will focus on techniques for reliving the discomfort that colic or wind can bring.

Is aromatherapy safe?

Under the instruction of a qualified aromatherapist aromatherapy is completely safe and has numerous benefits for both baby and family.

If you have a question which is not answered above then please do contact me, I'll be more than happy to help.
